Diminutive bulbous plants bearing many delicate star shaped flowers over grass like leaves. The plants flower prolifically during summer months - the flowers are unusual in being "centreless" with overlapping petals: colour may be white, pink and scarlet, some are bi-coloured or blushed.

Rhodoxyposis come from the Drakensberg Mountain region in South Africa where they flower in wet peaty soil which is dry during winter. They make excellent plants for troughs or pans, and can also be grown in an alpine garden or well drained border.

Rhodohypoxis are related to Hypoxis – the difference being that in that in the latter, the stamens are visible at the centre of the flower. Rhodohypoxis x hypoxis hybrids are designated "Rhodoxis".

Care of Rhodohypoxis
Rhodohypoxis grow best in an acid to neutral soil and need plenty of water during the growing season but need to be kept almost dry in winter. For container growing, plant the bulbs in a 50:50 mix of good quality compost (eg. John Innes No 2) and ericaceous compost mixed with grit for added drainage. Top soil with fine gravel. Water plants from spring onwards and place plants in full sun. In autumn, remove pots to a cold greenhouse or garage and keep dry throughout the dormant period. Repot plants each spring. The bulbs can also be planted in an alpine garden or a well drained, lime free border.
